Feet Can...

Dear Parents,

We began on Monday by making a list of things we can do with our feet. The children said feet can: walk, run, go down stairs, jump, march, swim, ride a bike and a tricycle, kick, and drive a car.

We read Hello Feet! Hello Toes!,  What In The World, When You Were A Baby, How Do I Put It On?, All The Colors Of The Earth, and My Body.

On Tuesday we did a foot feel. We reviewed our five senses and talked about using our sense of touch with our feet. We drew a map of the big room to show how we would walk. We took our shoes and socks off and walked across many textures. We went around and around and around in circles. The class did not tire of feeling with their feet. While we walked we sang The Ants Go Marching, Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Head, and Rain, Rain, Go Away.

Afterwards, we asked what did you feel? The class responded: fluffy, poppy, soft, scratchy, papery, like a cat, like toys, bumpy, and plastic-y.

During circle on Thursday we used our feet to kick balls. We added five balls to the center of circle. We kicked and laughed. Then we went into the big room and kicked balls some more. We noticed one friend was wearing a soccer shirt.

On Friday we played Red Light, Green Light. We used a Stop and Go sign to practice using our sense of sight and hearing at the same time. We talked about the lights at intersections being red, green, and yellow. One friend insisted there is no yellow! During the game we ran, hopped like bunnies, galloped like horses, stomped like elephants, slithered like snakes, and hopped like frogs.

We used tricycles and our see-saw whale for a bit, before going outside to swing and dig in the sandbox. And drive the jungle gym of course. It switched from the G train, to the E train.

Have a great time at the pumpkin patch!

Finger Paint and Hand Prints

Dear Parents,

We began on Monday using yellow finger paint on the table. We added red to create a new color. Someone said the yellow looked like mustard. It did. When we added red, someone remarked, “It’s like a pumpkin!” There were indeed many orange circles on the table.

On Thursday we used finger paint again to make handprints. We counted our fingers as we pressed them onto white paper. They’re hanging by the cubbies.

We also traced everyone’s hands. We sat at tables in the yard and used crayons to color them in. There are hands of many colors.

This week we read I Like Me!, What I Like About Me!, Would You Rather…, and Hands Can. We used our hands to reach for the stars, wave hello, and clap. We counted our fingers on both hands. Someone said, “Five and five make ten!”

Have a high five weekend,

Therese
