Day One and Two

Dear Parents,

Our first day went splendidly. We played in the yard swinging and climbing on the jungle gym. It took a bit for friends to find the waiting bench for swings. There was a small crowd too close for the swingers to swing. Everyone is already working on waiting for their turn.

We went upstairs in a line-ish to have circle and snacks. We noticed on Thursday that our two snacks were the same color. A couple of people said they didn’t like pineapple, as they gobbled it down.

During circle we sang our Good Morning song and as we sang friends’ names, they put their names up on our attendance chart. We counted fifteen children and two teachers.

We read Spot Goes To School, Cornelius P. Mud, Are You Ready For School?, and Wow! School! We noticed that the first book was about a dog going to school and the second a pig. The third book inspired us to sing the ABC’s. Twice.

On Friday, we read Will I Have a Friend?, Do You Want to be My Friend?, and  Owl Babies. We talked about our mamas and daddies leaving us in the morning and coming back later, just like the owl mama in the book.

We played with play dough on both days. The first day it was white, the second day we added one color. Everyone pinched, pulled, squished, and rolled their play dough to mix the color. We made snowmen, cupcakes, pancakes, snakes, tacos, a birthday cake, and much more.

In the bathroom we are working on pulling our underwear and pants down and up, getting onto and off of the toilet, washing hands using one pump of soap, drying our hands with one paper towel, and then putting it in the trashcan.

We are learning each other’s names and getting to know the space. Little steps before big ones.

We’re off to a great start,

Therese
